Water, source of life, and the basic values of true "bioregionalism" ...

Testo inglese:

The source of all life is water, which is why it is important that this element is not polluted, thus becoming a bearer of death. The first human cultures that recognized the value and archetypal significance of Water, are the Vedic one of India, which declares that the source of creation is Water, and the very ancient Chinese civilization, both dating back to millennia before. Christ.

In particular, in the ancient Chinese Book of Changes (I Ching), the Water element is responsible for communication. From it, life is born and preserved, thanks to its properties of containing information "dissolved" in itself and being absorbed, thus intimately becoming part of the various substances, water is the element of "communication" of information same.

This is where the sacredness of water comes from: it can bring Light back to Earth, ecological balance, just as it can transmit to Heaven everything we do on Earth. Considering that this element guarantees the survival of every living being on the planet, we can (and must) hope that the desirable ecological change that we all expect will finally manifest itself.

The Earth has the possibility of being fertilized, allowing life to sprout, absorbing water, conveying it where it is needed, keeping it in the hollows. Life is born where the Earth knows how to welcome Water in her womb. The conservation of water in the recesses is an action in keeping with the Earth ... but not with avarice but with the ability to "refresh" when needed, as a well does for the thirsty.

In this regard, in the I Ching hexagram N ° 48 Il Pozzo .... in the image it says: "Above the wood there is water. The image of the Well. Thus the nobleman animates the people during their work and urges them to help each other ".

And again, in the comment: "... the well is an image of the social organization of humanity regarding the basic necessities of life, which are independent of any political formation. Political formations, nations change, but man's life with his requests remains the same ... but this life is also inexhaustible. The bloodlines come and go and they all enjoy life in its inexhaustible copy. However different the talents and culture of men are, human nature in its foundations is the same in everyone and everyone can, cultivating himself, draw from the inexhaustible source of the divine nature of the human essence ".

These wonderful words make us think about what are the primary needs of the human being, and of all living beings, after all: feeding, having shelter, reproducing, relating, communicating, each according to their own nature. And with regard to culture (and therefore also of communication, that is to say of what one wishes to transmit) this hexagram of the Book of Changes always says another very important thing: "one must pay attention to the danger that, by taking care of one's own culture, one does not penetrate to the roots of humanity, getting entangled in conventional interests ".

The advice of the I Ching is to see the things that flow in front of the senses: sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch, using one's discrimination and sensitivity as if it were a sixth sense, rethinking the things lived and those that remain from to live.

What are we human beings doing, are we or are we not in tune with all these beautiful phrases? Are we aware of what this deep, divine nature of being is? And what are the needs of man? Have we not lost sight, perhaps, that life lived in an essential way, simply taking care of those "primordial" needs, would be more joyful, devoid of the anxieties of today's man? Do we not give too much attention perhaps to uses and conventions such as what we must always have more, but also be more, and do more? Don't we all try to have something to say, to explain, to teach others, believing that our own choice of life is the right one, the most acceptable, the most correct, the most ethical one? Wouldn't it be better to let the spontaneous manifestation of our being flow into what can and wants to express itself and simply enjoy Life, reciprocally with the rest of the world?

Of course, man has something more than other animals, he has a self-awareness that sometimes there is also a bit of weight, which makes us live less in the present and more in the past, of which we regret the positive sides. and we exclude the negative ones (even considering that everything is relative) and the future, in which we place hopes, desires and sometimes utopian projections.

This awareness, however, is also helpful, it can keep us company, it can make us live life fully in communion with other beings, making us grasp nuances that we would otherwise overlook and which we would never realize ...

Here are the basic values of true "bioregionalism" ...

Without paying any attention to it, we live in an artificial world, immersed in a consumerist society and in highly urbanized spaces, we escape from the heat in the summer and from the cold in the winter. Mostly we live in closed "conditioned" environments and we hardly put our nose out if there is a little rain.

Is this the life that we deserve?

Communication between human beings takes place through the codes of language. Each term employed is a symbol, signifying meaning a meaning, and the terms are related by grammatical, syntactic, and cultural rules. But there is also a direct communication, based on natural elements, which takes place by means of messages that are amplified by the senses that vibrate in contact with their external correspondents: the environment, the wind, the heat or the cold, the smells, the flavors… the mystery of the stars or of the dark sky empty of all light. We can live this experience consciously day by day.

For example, if we describe the wind it seems that everything stops at brain work: "Wind is a horizontal or vertical movement of a mass of air due to pressure differences, which in turn are due to an unequal distribution of heat. The air stream moves in the direction that goes from the high pressure area to the low pressure one. But two other forces intervene in the genesis of the wind, one deviant due to the rotation of the Earth and one of friction caused by the roughness of the earth's surface ”.

When we are in nature, in the dark dark night, on the edges of the river and the air pushes us or repels us, enters the clothes and makes us feel its breath, it is not the lexical descriptions that affect us ... the wind speaks to us directly , makes us turn up the collar and reminds us that we are alive!

In short, at the thought of having to face nature in its crudeness it almost seems that through the imagination or the description of possible events we have already solved the problem ... we have prepared ourselves for the "worst" (or the best), but this is not the case since things they happen not as expected, but all different. The quality of presence is sublime.

Life is an eternal beginning. The continuous transformation that the elements undergo can never be considered final and therefore life is without beginning and without end.

Paolo D'Arpini

Testo Italiano:

In "doing not doing" there is no realization ...

"A true Sufi sits with his companions, gets up and eats, sleeps, buys and sells at the market, gets married and participates in society, and yet never for a moment forgets God..." (Abu Sa'id ibn Abi al-khayr)

A friend of mine writes to me expressing her doubts "about the ideal behavior to be assumed for the purpose of spiritual fulfillment, following the example of the saints ..."

I replied by telling her that you cannot give a rule based on the behavior of a saint. The realized is no longer identified with an ego, referring to the body and mind, but also has prarabdha karma (a current life destiny) like any other human being. Even to believe that there are realized and unrealized in the saint's vision is illusory, since in his experience everything is One and indivisible.

At this point, how can we believe that any human action can represent a dividing line between the presumed accomplished and the presumed ignorant? What the saints tell of their life is only the outward aspect of their specific prarabdha karma, nothing to do with the hypothetical "do or not do" for the purpose of "realization".

In my life I was lucky enough to meet several saints and from their behavior I received a universal teaching, never in antithesis with the needs of my life. They have lived their life in the way that was their due, as I am living my life in the way that is due to me. This applies to anyone. There is no point in scrambling to do not do.

When we talk about spiritual research we do not mean pursuing a codified path, a fideistic norm, a belonging to a creed; the spiritual seeker is simply the one who looks at himself, the one who recognizes the Whole in himself and himself as the Whole.

From this point of view, spiritual research can be considered a strictly personal fact. Reconciling one's personal path with that of anyone else means knowing how to flow without obstructing, learning and transmitting without expecting, in short, it is about making peace with ourselves and with others.

"In accordance with each person's Prarabdha karma, the Ordinator controls the fate of souls in accordance with their past actions. Whatever is destined not to happen will not happen, no matter how hard you try. Whatever is bound to happen will happen, no matter how hard we try to stop it. " (Ramana Maharshi)

Testo italiano:

- Disarmed community. The cult of the ancestors ends and also that of the successors ...

Paolo D’Arpini

English reddition:

The cult of ancestors in many of the ancient civilizations was the coagulating factor for the preservation of the sense of community. In China, for example, it had risen almost to religion, in fact Confucianism is nothing more than a moral system based on respect for the "hierarchical" rules of father / son - sovereign / subject. In some way this system, which guarantees a role to the generations of the community, has ensured in the East as in the West, an orderly and rigorously ethical growth of society, even with the flaws of inevitable excesses, it has maintained that solidarity process born in the Matristic clans earlier, and subsequently transmitted to the patriarchate.

This conception went on without major upheavals until the beginning of the last century, when a "system revolution" was launched, an apparently bloodless and not specifically desired revolution, but the result is a sudden change of direction and the sortie utilitarian and exclusive models.

It coincides with the beginning of the industrial era and the market economy and with the emergence of large urban settlements, the metropolises, which we had already seen in the outline of the imperial model of Rome which was then taken up again in the United States of America.

The spark of the new social and economic paradigm - in my opinion - is a direct consequence of the great crisis of 1929 which on the one hand forced thousands of families into forced urbanization and the abandonment of the small-community criterion and the adoption of instrumental social models. . A new social and economic planning based on the collective capacity of production and on the consumption of superficial goods (coincides with the birth of Coca Cola, cigarettes, synthetic fibers, the diffusion of cars and other machinery). As I repeat, this model was not specifically pursued but the inevitable consequence of an acceptance of "finalized" production management - by the operational individuals - and the delegation of solidarity and social functions to the administrative bodies.

This procedure found its affirmation also in Europe starting from the 1950s (despite the general rehearsals of the early 20th century in England) and slowly expanded to the rest of the Westernized world, except in pockets of necessary "backwardness" that we now define "Third or fourth world". But this third or fourth world is also slowly taking on the utilitarian model and the result is the total family and social disconnection with the interruption of agriculture and crafts and the coming to light of crazed splinters of a society alien to itself. It takes place in the so-called megacities of twenty or thirty million inhabitants, with adjoining slums and endless suburbs. The internal solidarity of small communities has died while social categories have come to stratify that have little or nothing to share with "humanity".

In large industrialized and consumerist cities, on the one hand there is the class of "active" producers and on the other that of "passive" citizens, that is, children and the elderly. Let's leave the discussion of the actors in primis, the so-called producers and operators, open for the moment, and let's see what is happening in the passive categories, of the unarmed or assisted users.

Children are perhaps the most penalized since the most profitable and developmental interest is directed towards them, they are the "privileged" of the new market research formulas and at the same time left to themselves, following the total lack of internal solidarity in the family and social sphere. With few real prospects of evolutionary growth in intelligence and future interests, children are preparing to be the "bomb" of the final loss of connection to the organic-psychological reality between man, nature and environment. Already in them we witness the almost total inability to relate to a social and material reality, replaced by a "virtual and theoretical reality". Now as long as the generations that were born from the 1950s to the peak of the 1980s are able to withstand the blow of utilitarian production, this mass of "passive beardless" can still maintain an at least consumerist reason, after which the ability to survive stops inevitably, together with the operational volume of the parents ... ..

The other category, passive par excellence, is that of the elderly and disabled, pensioners, who already survive without hope, prey to increasingly widespread violence, thefts and scams and exploitation of their victim status (pursued by entities and associations that arise to "protect" them from abuse ....). In the antecedent solidarity society, the elderly had a precise social name in the transmission of the culture and experiences necessary for life, living in family environments where there was no separation between children, young and old. Now the elderly are in the way and as long as they can fend for themselves, well, then they become objects of the market for social workers, for hospices and for often unscrupulous home helps or fake care workers who milk at their meager pensions, moreover - recently - they are more and more victims of phony "moral entities" and thieves. And this is because the elderly no longer have a place or protection in society.

How are today's 50-year-olds going to ensure their survival if the social structure is so degraded? In their old age, they will not be assisted either by society or by their children and - perhaps - it will be precisely for this unconscious suspicion that many refuse to have children and pose as eternal "boys". Today one is "young with good hopes" up to fifty years and a little more and then suddenly rushes into the hell of old age and abandonment.

In short, "as long as you manage to get by with your own strength and then fat in the ass!" Perhaps we still have time to become aware of this and implement a sudden U-turn before the precipice.

The solution - secondly - lies in overcoming consumerist models and the family pattern of a modern couple, first of all, to rediscover new expressions of human solidarity in an enlarged sociality, at the same time abandoning the expansion of large urban agglomerations and renouncing cultural paroxysms. (pre-packaged music, televisions, idiotic sports, virtual games, etc) in order to recreate in us the primary stimulus of the joy of life and the creative ability to produce something that has the spirit of the necessary and the beautiful. In short, there is still talk of deep ecology and lay spirituality.

Return to Home Earth - Ritorno alla Casa Terra

We are reducing our planet to a cemetery, following an idea of well-being that does not take into account the others, all the others, ignoring the destruction of resources, the pollution caused to the Earth by our selfishness, yet we do not consider the  consequent diseases that they follow and we continue to destroy, using non-ecological scientific methods, under the illusion of doing the good of the community.

This seems like the time of the chopping up. In every part of Europe (and the world) we are witnessing a process of shattering human solidarity with exacerbated forms of distinction, not only for health reasons, but also for religious, ideological or status reasons. What is the reason for this crumbling? Monolithic blocks of economic and political power seem to want to take over the global but are crumbling on the rubble they themselves caused on the planet. Human society struggles in the frenzied search for a new identity and modus vivendi, will it be able to survive itself?

With the advent of forced "virtualization", following the separation resulting from the fight against contagion, the ways of working and socializing have changed. New entities, based on amorphous productivity, are taking over, while healthy social forces strike the walls (without doors) of an apparent democratic legality that no longer holds the fate of the nation.

Humans, in an attempt to conform to "higher" directives, have indeed lost the sense of dignity and respect for diversity. Again and again it stands out and judges itself. However, not in the economic and social planning firmly in the hands of a few "experts" ...

However, I believe that due to an opposite compensatory tendency it will happen that this "separation" will necessarily result in an interior re-approach of man towards man. After all, how much can we separate from ourselves without perishing? The yin and the yang are forces that alternate and compensate each other, neither of them can take a definitive upper hand. Hence, distancing becomes approach ... Life is elastic and cannot go in just one direction.

Now the need arises for new forms of balance, more rooted in the awareness of common belonging to life. An approach to universal consciousness.

In fact, the sense of common belonging leads to the sharing of the life event, to symbiotic attitudes and to a state of collective consciousness. Spiritual evolution requires that people recognize themselves in the common belonging to life. Separation is only a concept to justify personalistic and egoic "addresses", it is a radical fracture that splits the world and being in two.

The ability to coexist in the "land condominium" lies in the ability to relate to the place where one lives in harmony with the existing. Man, the human species as a whole, and the living environment are an indivisible entity.

Therefore, the first step to take, for the "Return Home", is the acceptance of differences, seen as character facts that at most (in the case of persistent moral negligence) can be 'cured' in the same way as an idiosyncrasy / disease internal. Man needs to recognize himself as 'unique' in his individuality, which resembles a snow crystal in the mass of snow, but in the awareness of belonging to the only human species. It will not be long - I hope - that the artificial divisions operated by the speculative mind will disappear completely and in their place a new spirit of brotherhood will take over, starting from the assumption of real similarities and peaceful coexistence. These similarities, in an ever closer society, will make man capable of understanding his neighbor, in full freedom, and of loving him as he really deserves. All inhabitants of the same planet, all at home!

Testo Italiano:

Tutti abitanti dello stesso pianeta, tutti a casa!

I Ching - Where the living and the dead meet ... I Ching

English translation:

Ante scriptum - I remember a funny Zen story which tells of a farmer who called a priest to perform a blessing ceremony for his family. The monk was about to begin the rite when the man asked him if his wife who had died some time before would also benefit from it. "Certainly - the priest assured - all sentient beings, living or dead, will benefit from it" - " Everyone… really everyone? " The farmer and the monk again investigated: "All beings share the Buddha nature and therefore everyone will be benefited and remembered in the function" - And the farmer: But ... really I would like at least my neighbor who is very close to me to be excluded unpleasant…"

Our observing the world, both internal (of emotions) and external (of objects), is almost never "clean", that is, devoid of interpretation and conceptualization.

We are used to judging what we observe through the filter of memory and sensations related to past experiences. Even in the case of "new" events or ideas previously not considered, we do not fail to try to "understand" and measure on the basis of our known. Here is this "foreknowledge" is our "slavery" but if we could let ourselves go to the point of being able to observe ourselves while the "pre-judgment" mechanism is triggered and understand its functioning ... we could already consider this "attention" as a first form of meditation and detachment from the ongoing appropriation process.

Let's make a practical analogy, to exemplify this attempt to shift the attention from the judging self to the witness capacity of pure conscience, analyzing the functioning of the dream. When we dream, everything happens in an apparently constructed and defined way while at the same time the events of the dream maintain the sense of imponderability. The specific character of our dream, in which we identify ourselves, is itself a simple component that is inseparable from the complexity of the dream, in which the various actors, figures, objects and events are one. The "farce" of the dream shows an apparent purpose and meaning in the eyes of the dream character with whom we identify. We see that he in fact makes deliberate gestures and probable efforts of will to achieve his dream goals, also relating to the other characters of the dream as "different" from himself.

Can this be true?

All aspects of the dream are produced by the same mind and are in no way controllable and manageable by any dream character or situation. Each of these elements being simple "passive" components imagined in the dreamer's mind. From the point of view of the "empirical" experience in the waking state, it can be said that the process of "creation" is practically the same. All objects and subjects that mutually perceive each other (being each subject and object at the same time in the perception of others) spring from the same "Mind", or Consciousness, and unfold on the conceptual screen of space-time events.

In fact, in this total functioning, there can be no personal volition or purpose, since (as in the dream) everything takes place regardless of the intention of any of the dreamed characters. While apparently they assume upon themselves the sense of affirmation or denial of their "will", but this only happens as a result of the effective consideration of the events already experienced. That is, after having "judged" the events that have occurred and have assumed them as one's own (through the sense of identification) and then defined as positive or negative (for the purposes of the personage).

From this, by extension, we arrive at the identity of the waking state and we discover that - as in the dream - it is not the individual beings who manifest life and its components but the Consciousness itself, engaged as it is in the work of vivification of its emanations and manifestations, which are possible only through it.

For this reason it is said that "when the me disappears the ego manifests itself" (Ramakrishna Paramahansa), or when individual identification automatically ceases, impersonal Consciousness emerges. It is said that "emerges" as such pure Consciousness is already inherent in the individual himself (as the mind is present in the dreamed character) that the "substance" does not belong to the changing appearance but is the essence that animates it.

Obviously in the case of "awakening" to the pure ego the sense of individual identity "dies" but this does not imply the automatic disappearance of its apparent "semblance", which will continue to remain in the perception of the "other" observers, but emptied within it of every objective identification, being the awakened pure and simple "subjectivity" (Awareness devoid of attributes).

Spontaneity is the "behavioral" characteristic of the awakened person, when spontaneity means simple ability to respond, adequate and in keeping with the situations in which he encounters. In such a being there remains no shadow of intentionality or judgment, desire or repulsion, his "will" corresponds exactly to the events he experienced without him seeking it. We can define this state: Freedom.

To signify the true nature of being and the "return" to the intrinsic awareness that is proper to it, admitting that this nature is the same for each of us, I like to quote a phrase by Nisargadatta Maharaj, who said: "It does not matter what what you do or what you do not do if you have really perceived what I am talking about. Otherwise, it doesn't even matter if you don't understand what I'm talking about .. ”Which means that in both cases the intrinsic reality doesn't change… and what is destined to happen happens on his behalf….

It happens, however, that this discourse, although sometimes intellectually accepted, often needs digestion and assimilation, in short, it must be made "ours". This can happen through reflection, re-elaboration and recognition of this truth within us.

Now somehow we seem to have understood but we must detoxify ourselves from the speculative tendency and from the identification with the embodied character.

To this end, not to obtain the condition that is already in our nature but in order to avoid the cheating of the mind, I recommend repeated reading and pondering on the images contained in the Book of Changes, a compendium of psychosomatic archetypal examples, that is, describing the different behavioral models, based on the variegated expressive capacities of the mind in the development of space-time events.

By means of analysis it will be possible to recognize the multicolored forms that the mind can take in this world of appearances, its transformations being simple results, resonances and adaptations to the conditions it faces. This is an automatic response to the unfolding of the constant mutations and mixing of the basic elements of life.

Obviously these mutations are practically infinite but in the Book of Changes 64 aspects / mother are examined, in the form of hexagrams in which each line is a constitutive component with its own meanings. Since this text is the result of an ancient and constant study and observation of natural and social phenomena, interpreted and seen both with reason and with intuition, it appears as an integrated complex of the different analytical and analogical expressive modes of the mind.

"Knowing the mind so as not to be fooled by the mind .." Ramana Maharshi affirmed.

And in the Book of Changes it can be said that both the speculative and metaphysical philosophical aspects as well as the analytical and empirical ones (Taoism and Confucianism) are merged, so the practice is to observe the images without wanting to assume the concepts, a good method to approach the corresponding behavioral spontaneity of the essay, based on the capacity for immediate behavioral response in the various situations encountered in life, also in consideration of the peculiar characteristics embodied by each and in the position and condition in which we are. In short, knowing the means to adequately address the path.

Since the reading of the text is not immediately clear and assimilable, a continuous repetition is advisable, but without interpretative efforts, in order to slowly push our mind towards that necessary "detachment" from pre-established purposes, thus leaving out the attempt to understand rational meanings and letting the evoked images find correspondence in our unconscious.
