Recognize oneself with the place and with the community of the living… - Riconoscersi con il luogo e con la comunità dei viventi…

 

During the large gatherings at Stonehenge, around the sacred stones, the wise men of the time gathered to tell each other adventures and discoveries and to once again establish belonging to a shared culture and identify with the place...

Everything that surrounds us and ourselves are the exact same thing, we are immersed in ourselves like water in water and yet we continue to behave as if we were separate, disposing of what we believe is "outside of us" as if it were "other" from us. Is there a greater wonder than this?

 Roberto Marchesini, an Emilian ethologist, born in Bologna, who was also a pioneering researcher in the field of deep ecology, as well as an educator who attempted in every way to convey the love for nature. He thus stated: "...everyone verbally agrees in defining the environment, other species, biodiversity, natural resources as a precious asset, however it is with great difficulty that it is possible to translate this awareness into concrete choices of eco-compatibility. The greatest difficulty lies in wanting to recognize an oppressor and polluter who always comes from afar, an overbearing otherness in which the enemy to be fought is always the other".

In short, we must live ecology in everyday life and in ourselves if we want it to be implemented in the social and environmental context in which we find ourselves.

The bioregion is our home, or rather we are ourselves, not a place external to us... and so is the local community. We often don't realize that our good intentions all end up in the rubbish bin, perhaps separated, and that our intentions of love and human solidarity and with other species end up in an offering made to the municipal shelter or to the missions in Africa. And who lives with us here? Our neighbor? The migrant on the bench in the public gardens? The friend who has no friends? The forest animals that we eat at the characteristic restaurant? The trees that we agree to cut down because they obstruct the roadway?

We often indulge in a culture based on models that despise natural otherness: from unconscious consumerism to the technological aggressiveness of cars, instruments, prostheses...

Durante i grandi raduni di Stonehenge, attorno ai sacri sassi,  i saggi del tempo si riunivano per raccontarsi avventure e scoperte e per nuovamente sancire l’appartenenza ad una cultura condivisa e riconoscersi con il luogo…

Tutto quel che ci circonda e noi stessi siamo la stessa identica cosa, siamo immersi in noi stessi come acqua nell’acqua eppure continuiamo a comportarci come fossimo separati, disponendo di ciò che riteniamo “sia al di fuori di noi” come  fosse “altro” da noi. C’è una meraviglia più grande di questa?

Roberto Marchesini, un etologo emiliano, nato a Bologna, che è stato anche un ricercatore antesignano nell’ambito dell’ecologia del profondo, nonché un educatore che ha tentato in ogni modo di trasmettere l’amore per la natura. Egli così affermava: “…tutti a parole sono d’accordo nel definire l’ambiente, le altre specie, la biodiversità, le risorse naturali un bene prezioso tuttavia con grande difficoltà si riesce a tradurre questa coscienza in scelte concrete di eco-compatibilità. La difficoltà maggiore sta nel voler riconoscere un oppressore ed inquinatore che viene sempre da lontano, una alterità prepotente in cui il nemico da combattere è sempre l’altro”.

Insomma dobbiamo vivere l’ecologia nel quotidiano ed in noi stessi se vogliamo che venga attuata nel contesto sociale ed ambientale in cui ci troviamo. 

La bioregione è la nostra casa, anzi siamo noi stessi, non un luogo esterno a noi… e parimenti lo è la comunità locale. Spesso non ci accorgiamo che le nostre belle intenzioni finiscono tutte nel bidone della spazzatura, magari differenziata, e che i nostri propositi amorosi e di solidarietà umana e con le altre specie si risolvono in un’offerta fatta al canile municipale od alle missioni in Africa. E chi vive assieme a noi qui? Il nostro vicino di casa? Il migrante sulla panchina ai giardini pubblici? L’amico o l’amica che non ha amici? Gli animali del bosco che mangiamo al ristorante caratteristico? Gli alberi che accettiamo di tagliare perché ingombrano la carreggiata?

Sovente ci culliamo in una cultura fondata su modelli che disprezzano l’alterità naturale: dall’inconsapevole consumismo fino all’aggressività tecnologica di automobili, di strumenti, di protesi…

Riflettiamo.
