In the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of the Wooden Dragon begins on 10 February 2024 and will end on 28 January 2025. The Dragon is the only archetype that refers to a symbolic animal, which does not exist in nature, but has always been imprinted in the popular and mythological imagination. The meaning connected to it is certainly not the one considered in the West, especially following the negative judgment evoked by Christianity. For us, the dragon represents the evil one who must be subdued. It symbolizes the brute force of Nature, to be fought, controlled and exploited according to our purposes. On the contrary, in Chinese symbolism the Dragon is the archetype that allows life to thrive on the planet. One of the most symbolic and powerful signs, representing strength, courage and good luck. The Wood element adds a special dimension, bringing creativity, flexibility and growth within the year of the Dragon.
The related I Ching Hexagram is Ta Chuang - Below is the ascending Trigram Chien (Heaven) and above the trigram Chen (Thunder).
The Sentence: The Power of the Great. Perseverance is auspicious.
Meaning. The sign indicates a moment in which the inner strength emerges with impetus and comes to dominance. Strength has already passed the midpoint, therefore the danger looms that one trusts one's own power too much without asking each time where the right thing is, or that one searches for movement without taking care of the right time. For this reason, perseverance is advised since true power does not degenerate into violence but remains connected to the principles of law and justice.
The Image: Thunder is high in the sky: the image of the Power of the Great. Thus the noble does not follow paths that do not correspond to order.
Meaning. Thunder, the electric force, rises upwards in spring. This movement conforms to the movement of the sky, is therefore in harmony with the sky and produces great power. But true greatness is based on agreement with what is right. “Great and upright so the relations of heaven and earth can be observed.”
This also applies to the fight against the imperfections of one's nature, here too one must not get tired, despite the possible relapses, but continue until success is achieved.
The moment.
Spring arrives, the sun crosses the equator and the days and nights are of equal length. We tune our rhythms with those of mother Earth and father Sun, the corresponding period in the Western horoscope is that of Aries.
Some indications on the Wooden Dragon (Wood is however assigned as a fixed element to the Dragon). The Dragon is the only Chinese sign that is inspired by the fantastic and represents the ability to complete the projects undertaken. The Dragon is the symbol of Yang par excellence. The Kien Hexagram which denotes the creative force Yang, is composed of 6 entire lines, each of which represents a Dragon in various positions, starting from below the ground up to the final empirical flight. The image of the dragon is the lightning that suddenly shines in the spring night and her voice is the thunder. The rain that falls waters the earth and fertilizes it. The same symbolism is ascribed to Indra the king of the Vedic Gods and to Jupiter, his Greek equivalent. For this reason the Chinese element permanently linked to the Dragon is Wood. It corresponds to the Air of our tradition, and in the Book of Changes it is equated with the "wind" which - like wood - penetrates and subtly transmits through touch. Wood means emotions, feelings. This does not prevent the Dragon characterized by Wood from taking blunders and blows on the head due to his impetuosity, sometimes poorly directed.
Those born under the Chinese Sign of Dragon are often considered charismatic, determined and ambitious. Their presence is imposing and they manage to inspire others. Nello Zodiaco Cinese il 10 febbraio 2024 inizia l’Anno del Drago di Legno che avrà termine il 28 gennaio 2025. Il Drago è l'unico archetipo che fa riferimento ad un animale simbolico, non esistente in natura, ma da sempre è impresso nell'immaginazione popolare e mitologica. Sicuramente il significato ad esso connesso non è quello considerato in occidente, soprattutto in seguito al giudizio negativo evocato dal cristianesimo. Il drago per noi rappresenta il maligno che deve essere sottomesso. Esso simboleggia la forza bruta della Natura, da combattere, controllare e sfruttare secondo i nostri fini. Al contrario nella simbologia cinese il Drago è l'archetipo che consente alla vita di prosperare sul pianeta. Uno dei segni più simbolici e potenti, rappresentante di forza, coraggio e buona fortuna. L’elemento Legno aggiunge una dimensione speciale, portando creatività, flessibilità e crescita all’interno dell’anno del Drago.

La Sentenza: La Potenza del Grande. Propizia è perseveranza.
Significato. Il segno indica un momento in cui la forza interiore emerge con impeto e giunge al dominio. La forza ha già superato il punto mediano incombe perciò il pericolo che ci si fidi troppo della propria potenza senza chiedersi volta per volta dove sia il giusto, ovvero che si ricerchi il movimento senza curarsi del tempo opportuno. Per questo si consiglia perseveranza poiché la vera potenza non degenera in violenza ma resta connessa con i principi del diritto e della giustizia.
L’Immagine: Il Tuono sta in alto nel cielo:
l’immagine della Potenza del Grande. Così il nobile non percorre sentieri che non corrispondano all’ordine.
Significato. Il tuono, la forza elettrica, in primavera sale verso l’alto. Questo movimento è conforme al moto del cielo, è dunque in armonia col cielo e produce grande potenza. Ma la vera grandezza si basa però con la concordanza con ciò che è retto. “Grande e retto così si possono osservare le relazioni del cielo e della terra”.
Questo vale anche per la lotta contro le imperfezioni della propria natura, anche qui non bisogna stancarsi, nonostante le possibili ricadute, ma continuare finché si giunge al successo.
Il momento.
Giunge la primavera, il sole attraversa l’equatore ed i giorni e le notti sono di eguale lunghezza. Sintonizziamo i nostri ritmi con quelli di madre Terra e padre Sole, il periodo corrispondente nell'oroscopo occidentale è quello dell’Ariete.

La stessa simbologia viene ascritta a Indra il re degli Dei vedici ed a Giove, suo equivalente greco. Per questa ragione l'elemento cinese stabilmente collegato al Drago è il Legno. Corrisponde all'Aria della nostra tradizione, e nel Libro dei Mutamenti è equiparato al “vento” che -come il legno- penetra e sottilmente trasmette attraverso il tatto. Il Legno significa emozioni, sentimenti. Ciò non impedisce al Drago contraddistinto dal Legno di prendere cantonate e botte in testa per la sua irruenza, talvolta mal indirizzata.
