Trees and animals are also human beings - Anche alberi e animali sono esseri umani

The cure for human cancer on Earth is inherent in humanity itself. At any time we could change our attitude and develop a new paradigm in which to evolve without damaging the environment that hosts us and of which we are part. The point is that there is a lack of political and ecological will, of course, but also the minute awareness of the people. If the Earth dies due to the ill will of us human beings, it will not be of natural causes, but murder and the penalty to be paid will be our extinction ...

Since the end of the 1980s, when the VVTT vegetarian club was still based in Calcata, we have collected thousands of signatures so that the status of "human beings" was recognized for all animals.

Obviously, if this happened, it would immediately lead to the closure of all farms and slaughterhouses. I remember that I sent that request to the rulers at the time, trying to sensitize the then President of the Republic, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, who replied by saying that it was not his prerogative to intervene in this sense. Well, later, also to silence public opinion, at least the law against the mistreatment of pets passed, which by now have become in effect "life companions" and affective substitutes for many humans.

Unfortunately, the same consideration is not addressed to the other animals that are still tortured and vivisected, abused in all ways, killed for culinary purposes or for fun and games. Here I note that even the Catholic Church does not consider "pietas" towards our fellow men as an ethical-philosophical (not to say religious and moral) necessity.

The same disrespect is directed towards the plant world: trees. Plants - as the botanist Stefano Mancuso said - are the first forms of life, endowed with intelligence and consciousness, that appeared on the planet and it is they that allow the existence of all living species on the planet, including man. Plants constitute the rib, the base, on which the whole world in which we live is built. Believing to be above Nature is one of the most serious dangers for the survival of our species.

La cura al cancro-umano sulla Terra è insita nell’umanità stessa. In qualsiasi momento potremmo cambiare atteggiamento e sviluppare un nuovo paradigma nel quale evolverci senza danneggiare l’ambiente che ci ospita e di cui siamo parte. Il punto è che manca la volontà politica ed ecologica,  certamente, ma anche la consapevolezza minuta della gente. Se la Terra morirà a causa della cattiva volontà di noi esseri umani, non sarà per cause naturali, ma assassinio e la pena da pagare sarà la nostra estinzione...

A partire dalla fine degli anni '80 del secolo scorso, quando ancora il circolo vegetariano VVTT aveva sede a Calcata, abbiamo raccolto migliaia di firme  affinché lo status di "esseri umani" venisse riconosciuto a tutti gli animali. 

Ovviamente se ciò avvenisse comporterebbe immediatamente la chiusura di tutti gli allevamenti  e di tutti i mattatoi. Ricordo che inviai agli allora governanti quella richiesta, cercando di sensibilizzare anche l'allora presidente della Repubblica, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, il quale ci rispose dicendo che non era nelle sue prerogative intervenire in tal senso. Beh, successivamente, anche per tacitare l'opinione pubblica,  passò almeno la legge contro il maltrattamento degli animali da compagnia, che oramai sono diventati a tutti gli effetti "compagni di vita" e sostituti affettivi  per molti umani. 

Purtroppo la stessa considerazione non è rivolta verso gli altri animali che ancora sono torturati  e vivisezionati, maltrattati in tutti i modi, uccisi per scopi culinari o per gioco e divertimento.  Qui rilevo che anche la chiesa cattolica  non considera la “pietas” verso i nostri consimili come una necessità etico-filosofica (per non dire religiosa e morale).

La stessa mancanza di rispetto  è  rivolta verso il mondo vegetale: gli alberi. Le piante -come disse il botanico Stefano Mancuso- sono  le prime forme di vita, dotate di  intelligenza e coscienza,  apparse sul pianeta e sono esse che consentono l'esistenza di tutte le specie viventi sul pianeta, uomo compreso.  Le piante costituiscono la nervatura, la base,   sulla quale è costruito l'intero mondo in cui viviamo. Credere di essere aldisopra della Natura è uno dei pericoli più gravi per la sopravvivenza della nostra specie.
