Il 12 febbraio 2021 entriamo nell'anno del Bufalo di Metallo (oro) che terminerà il 31  gennaio 2022. Abbiamo un anno intero per sperare che la ponderatezza e la pervicacia del Bufalo ci porti a superare le contingenze difficili in cui ci troviamo. Già possiamo intravvederlo, dal posizionamento  di questo archetipo (che segue il Topo situato nell'estremo nord - inverno)  che è collegato all'esagramma dell'I Ching  Fu (Il Ritorno), ovvero l'apparire di una prima linea chiara sotto le linee scure precedenti.  Inoltre  dobbiamo considerare l'elemento abbinato a questo anno, ovvero il Metallo, che secondo la tradizione cinese è l'Oro, puro e prezioso.

“Esagramma 24, Fu – Il Ritorno” – Archetipo del Bufalo. Il segno è caratterizzato da una linea chiara (cioè intera) alla base che sale verso l’alto spingendo le 5 linee spezzate soprastanti. Per I Ching è “La Terra Sopra il Tuono”

Esso significa radice e tronco del carattere. Il bene, la luce che compare in basso è all’inizio, quasi insignificante, ma è abbastanza forte per affermarsi durevolmente, nella sua peculiarità (come gli è congeniale), di fronte a ogni tentazione dell’ambiente. La parola “ritorno” suggerisce anche l’idea di una continua inversione di rotta dopo gli errori, nonché l’idea della conoscenza di sé e dell’autocritica occorrente per correggersi. La Luce in questo caso corrisponde anche alla Coscienza, la capacità di vedere le cose con  chiarezza e quindi essere in grado di rispondere alle situazioni con maggiore responsabilità (dal latino responsibility, ovvero capacità di dare risposte adeguate).

Nell’antica Cina, in questo periodo, “I mercanti non viaggiavano e il sovrano non visitava le contrade”. Il Bufalo approfitta di questo momento per riposare e ponderare con cautela la situazione, con metodicità, disciplina, senso dell’ordine (anche gerarchico), giusto tempo e giusto luogo, in modo da redigere un quadro di valori in cui le cose procedono al loro posto. Ovvio che queste caratteristiche non tengono conto dell’emozionalità. “La mia è la forza stabilizzatrice che perpetua il ciclo della vita. Io resto immobile nelle prove delle avversità, risoluto e irreprensibile. Mi sforzo di seguire l’integrità, di portare il fardello della rettitudine. Obbedisco alle leggi della Natura, spingendo con pazienza la ruota del Fato. Così io intesso il mio destino”.

Alcune caratteristiche del Bufalo: è dotato di straordinario autocontrollo e capacità di dedizione; scarseggia in senso dell’humor e immaginazione; impacciato nei sentimenti ma fedele. Si carica di lavoro, a volte è burbero e brontolone. Non ama ricevere consigli, ha un discreto senso degli interessi. Solitamente prende le cose molto sul serio, è diligente e analitico. Severo, tende al pregiudizio ed è conservatore.
